The Gazette’s NIE program is dedicated to improving the quality of education in Eastern Iowa communities by placing newspapers in classrooms, and providing free support curriculum for teachers.
Through the use of daily news, editorial, features and even advertising, students at all grade levels can learn math and cost comparison skills, geography and meteorology, history and current events, all while improving reading and comprehension. The NIE program helps motivate and teach students with a textbook as fresh as each day’s news.
Curriculum tools are provided online to assist educators when utilizing the newspaper in their classrooms. Our goal is to help our youth become literate, knowledgeable, and informed citizens through reading The Gazette.
