The NIE Program

Thanks to the contributions of our subscribers, we are able to offer newspapers to educators and schools in our service area to promote news literacy in Eastern Iowa communities by placing newspapers in classrooms, offering digital subscriptions and providing free support curriculum for teachers.

On a mission to empower news literacy

Through the use of daily news, editorial, features and even advertising, students at all grade levels can learn math and cost comparison skills, geography and meteorology, history and current events, all while improving reading and comprehension. The NIE program helps motivate and teach students with a textbook as fresh as each day’s news.

Curriculum tools are provided online to assist educators when utilizing the newspaper in their classrooms. Our goal is to help our youth improve media literacy, to become knowledgeable and informed citizens by utilizing The Gazette.
